This page collects 11 Masters scholarships in Medicine & Health Sciences that are open to Nigerian students. Every award on the list sits at masters level, and every one is in the medicine and health sciences field. Ten of the 11 are labelled fully funded. One is labelled partially funded.
If you have been searching for postgraduate funding that does not assume you are applying from inside the country, this is a small, focused list rather than a general directory. It is worth reading in full before you open a single application form, because the spread of countries and the spread of requirements tell you where your own profile fits.
The 11 awards are spread across seven countries. Australia and China each account for three. The Netherlands, Romania, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States each account for one.
That distribution matters for planning. Australia and China together hold the majority of the list, so a Nigerian applicant who can only manage one application cycle should look there first. The single awards in the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, the UK and the US are not lesser options, but they are single entries: one deadline each, one set of documents each.
Providers named on the page include participating Australian institutions, the University of Tasmania, Stanford University, leading Russian medical universities (Sechenov, Pirogov, RUDN, Kazan, Kursk and others), Shanghai universities and Beijing universities.
Of the 11 awards, 8 state that Nigerians may apply. Within that group, 1 names Nigeria or the region directly, and 7 carry no nationality restriction. The remaining 3 awards do not state their eligibility on the award page itself.
Read that carefully. Eight is not the same as eleven. For three awards on this list, the brief does not tell us who may apply, and no honest page can fill that gap for you. If one of those three is the award you want, you will have to open the award page and check its own eligibility wording before you spend money on transcripts or a courier.
The seven with no nationality restriction are the simplest to reason about: nothing in the award text excludes you on the basis of where you were born or where you studied.
Funding labels on this page are the awards' own labels. Ten say fully funded. One says partially funded. Beyond the label, the award texts name specific benefits, and the counts below are how many awards name each one in writing:
These are not promises that every fully funded award covers all six. They are what the awards say about themselves. A "fully funded" label on an award that names tuition and living costs is doing different work from one that also names accommodation, travel and health insurance. When you compare two offers, compare the named benefits, not the label.
Where an award does not name a benefit, treat it as unconfirmed and ask the provider directly.
The requirements stated on the awards on this page break down as follows:
Two points deserve attention. First, only two awards state an English test requirement, which means most of this list does not say so in its own text. That is not the same as a waiver. Confirm with each university whether your WAEC or NECO English result, or a prior degree taught in English, satisfies them.
Second, two awards require an admission offer before you can apply for the funding. Those are sequential, not parallel: you must be admitted first, then apply. Build that into your timeline, because admission decisions take months.
Letters of recommendation appear most often. Approach your referees early, give them your CV and your statement, and give them a date that is at least two weeks before the actual deadline.
Six of the 11 awards carry a stated date. Six are recurring, meaning the cycle repeats and a missed date is not necessarily final. Five are undated on the page.
The busiest month is October, with three deadlines. April and December each carry one.
The awards closing soonest are:
One further award sits alongside these with a 1 October deadline: the University of Tasmania Scholarship 2027 (Fully Funded).
Notice the shape of the calendar. Two deadlines land in October, one in December, one in March and one in April. If you are reading this in the middle of a cycle, the March and April dates are the ones you can still prepare for properly.
The pathway into this level is straightforward: you hold a first degree or HND. The qualifications that lead here are B.Sc, B.A, B.Eng, LLB, MBBS and HND.
These are taught and research masters. Awards usually state a minimum class of degree, and where an award says "upper second", that corresponds to Second Class Upper (2:1) on a Nigerian transcript. Whether an HND is accepted is decided by each university, not by this page, so ask before you apply.
Budget your document costs. Transcripts from Nigerian universities take time and money, and courier fees are paid by you. Start the transcript request the same week you shortlist an award, not the week the deadline falls.
Work in this order. First, decide which country you can realistically fund the application process for, and note that Australia and China hold three awards each. Second, filter out the three awards whose eligibility is not stated, unless you are willing to check each one directly. Third, shortlist no more than three awards and read each one end to end.
Then gather documents against the requirements above: referees for the four awards that ask for letters, a research proposal if you are targeting the two that require one, and an admission application first if you are targeting the two that require an offer before funding.
Finally, mark the dates. October is the busiest month on this list. If you are not ready for October, the December, March and April deadlines are still open, and six of these awards recur, so a missed cycle is not the end of the road.
