This page collects 9 fully funded master's scholarships in China that are open to Nigerian students. Every award on the list is at master's level, every one is in China, and every one is described by its provider as fully funded. No other country appears on this page.
China is the only country represented, so the list is narrow by design rather than by accident. If you are set on a master's in China and you need the funding to come with it, these nine are the ones we have gathered in one place.
All 9 awards on this page are open to Nigerian applicants. None of them names Nigeria or the African region in its eligibility text, and none of them carries a nationality restriction that would shut a Nigerian applicant out. In other words, the route is open because the award does not close it.
That distinction matters when you read the fine print on any scholarship. An award that says nothing about nationality is not the same as an award that names your country. Check each provider's own eligibility wording before you spend money on a courier.
The qualifications that lead into this level are a first degree or an HND: B.Sc, B.A, B.Eng, LLB, MBBS or HND. These are taught and research master's awards. Providers usually state a minimum class of degree, and "upper second" in a foreign prospectus corresponds to Second Class Upper (2:1) on a Nigerian transcript. Whether an HND is accepted is decided by each university, not by this page.
Read these as what the awards say in writing, not as a promise that every naira of your costs disappears.
Tuition is the benefit most commonly written into the award text, which is what "fully funded" usually rests on. Living costs, accommodation and health insurance appear together in five awards, so a genuine monthly stipend plus a place to stay is on the table for a good part of this list. Travel is rarer, and research or training costs rarer still. If your budget depends on a flight being covered, confirm that with the provider directly.
The requirements below are counted from what the awards themselves state. They tell you what to prepare before a deadline arrives, not what will get you in.
Recommendation letters are the single most common demand, so line up your referees early. Ask a lecturer or supervisor who knows your work, give them your transcript and your statement, and give them weeks rather than days. Two of the awards that ask for an English test may waive it where your degree was taught in English, but that is a decision for the provider, so read the wording on the award page.
Three awards want a research proposal. That is a writing job, not a form-filling job, and it is the part most applicants underestimate. The one award that asks for an admission offer first means the scholarship application comes after you have been accepted onto a programme, so the university application and the funding application are two separate steps with two separate timelines.
The nine awards spread across ten subject areas, and several awards cover more than one field.
Arts, business and economics are the most widely available, with four awards each. Agriculture, education, engineering, law and medicine each appear in three. Public policy and social sciences are the thinnest at one award each, so if that is your field you have a narrower set to work with and should apply to everything that fits.
The providers on this page include Peking University, Yangzhou University, Qingdao University and Nankai University, alongside grouped listings for Shanghai universities and Beijing universities. Two awards publish an award count: Qingdao University states 20 places at PhD level and 10 at master's level, and the Schwarzman Scholars Program states up to 140. Where a provider has not published a number, we have not supplied one.
Programme lengths vary by award. One states two years. Others describe a master's of two to three years, and one gives a master's of two years with a doctorate of three. Plan your funding around the longer end of whatever the award states.
Six of the nine awards carry a date and are still open. Three are undated, and six recur, meaning the provider runs the award on a cycle rather than once. The busiest month on this list is May, with three deadlines, followed by April and December with one each.
These are the awards closing soonest:
The Yenching Academy deadline is the nearest of the five. The rest fall between April and May, which gives you a stretch of months rather than weeks if you start now.
Start with the deadline that is closest and work backwards. If Yenching Academy is on your list, your referees and your statement need attention first, because 1 December will arrive before the April and May dates do.
Then sort the list by what you can actually supply. If you have no research proposal and no time to write one, the three awards that demand it are a poor fit this cycle and the others are not. If you have no IELTS or TOEFL score, check the English-test waiver wording on the five awards that ask for one before you book a test date.
Order your transcript from your Nigerian institution early. Transcript processing and courier delivery take time you cannot compress later, and a recommendation letter that arrives after the portal closes is worth nothing. Keep a single folder with your transcript, your degree certificate, your referees' contacts and your statement, and reuse it across all nine applications rather than rebuilding it each time.
Finally, treat this page as a starting point, not a substitute for the provider's own instructions. The counts here tell you what the awards say they cover and what they say they require. The award page tells you how to submit.
